“Who do you think we’re doing all this for?”
It’s the 1970s. The silence of normalisation. Welcome to the ‘opening’ of our perfect Husák apartment. Hey Bedřich, there’s not a thing out of place! Václav Havel and his dissident alter ego, Bedřich, in an absurd grotesque-satire from the critical year of 1975.
‘Shall we put the fire on?’ Time is passing and the era of acquiescence seems never-ending… What to do next? How to live in (or with) truth? Activate yourself! A collision between the ideal (and undefeated?) eager couple and a gloomy intellectual. From self-reflection to depression, from depression to action. Havel will write to Husák!
This production was created for the occasion of what would have been Václav Havel’s 80th birthday. The premiere took place as part of the Málo bylo Havla festival of the Centre for Experimental Theatre.
