Alfa

For 20 years, HaDivadlo’s been situated in the Alfa arcade. Housing several cultural institutions, culinary businesses, and shops, the Alfa arcade is a major achitectural landmark in the centre of Brno.

HaDivadlo moved to the space of the former Alfa cinema in January 2004 after changing its address a few times. Since then, Alfa has been HaDivadlo’s home. The very first performance in the Alfa arcade, Hrdinové (Heroes) of the then artistic director Jiří Pokorný and the theatre’s author collective, happened on 14th January 2004.

Until June 2021, Kavárna Švanda had been one of HaDivadlo’s neighbours in the Alfa arcade. Afterwards, it underwent a reconstruction to house Janko Martinkovič’s Larva Mola. Since May 2023, it has been the home of the Austrian restaurant Kšeft.

If you have a sweet tooth, fancy artisanal ice cream or just want to have coffee, you can visit Čokoládovna Minach opposite HaDivadlo or go to Etažér, a confectionery, a cafe, and a bar opened by Cukrářství Martinák.

HaDivadlo’s oldest productions already put on in the Alfa arcade are  At the Hitlers’ or Stories from the Hitlers’ Kitchen by Arnošt Goldflam, Indian in Danger directed by Jiří Havelka, Marysha directed by Lukáš Brutovský a The Expulsion of Gerta Schnirch directed by Marián Amsler.
