Eyolf

“There are poor people living below us!”

The first part of the production works with the ‘live cinema’ method.

On the Norwegian coast, a remote house stands above a fjord. The marriage of Rita and Alfred, middle-class owners of a property with a child. How to be happy together today? Sounds like a cliché?

Alfred returns to his wife after a long trip to the mountains. He wanted to think about his life and write a book on responsibility. He’s an intellectual but has plenty of money thanks to his wife. But from now on, he resolves never to write again. His creative life ends now. From now on, it will be only family, only Eyolf, nothing else!

Eyolf goes outside to play. There is a sudden tragedy and Eyolf dies. What is there to say? The search for realism. Emotions as drugs. Relationships as screens onto which we project ourselves. To whom do we speak when desire turns into isolation? How to see the other person? Can depression be activating?

This is one of the last dramas written by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen, which explores the way out of consuming one another. Interpersonal ecology and utopian realism.
